- Abstract
During last two years Canadian-American defence relations are influenced by two factors: the negotiations of two countries on revision of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the overall commitment of Canada and the US to modernize their joint North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The negotiations with the US on NAFTA, a vital issue for Canada, demanded from Canada not to allow any irritants on other issues (not connected with NAFTA) in bilateral relations with the US. On the other hand, the problem of modernization of NORAD during Trump’s first two years in power has turned for Canada into a much more complicated issue – to participate or not to participate in the missile defence of North America.
