- Abstract
- A criticism by a writer might find outlet not only in his special critical articles or analyses, but, above all, in his own creative works. There are many examples of that phenomenon in works by Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and others. Chekhov's criticism of Leo Tolstoy's story "The Kreutzer Sonata" was expressed in his letters. However, his creative works of the first half of the 1890s are also full of hidden reaction to Tolstoy's story - thus the criticism assumed the form of artistic polemics.
