- Abstract
- This paper explains the benefits of using the multi-factor analysis when studying different types of Southern Russian vocalism. Focusing on the Sudzhan dissimilatory "jakan'e" (type of vowel reduction in Russian, named after Sudzha - a town in Kursk Oblast), the paper shows that the presented method is instrumental in revealing and interpreting the specifics of the pretonic vocalism and helps taking into account the diachronic aspect of the matter.
