- Abstract
- This paper presents the multi-factor analysis of a moderate type of pretonic vocalism in the dialects of Tula (this type of vowel reduction is named in Russian umerennoe jakane). The presented method is instrumental in revealing genetic and typological relations between this moderate pretonic vocalism and other South-Russian vowel systems, which allows us to interpret this vocalism pattern as an outcome of the inner development of the regional phonetic system.
