Abstract
The author of the article draws upon historical sources, which, he believes, thoroughly illuminate a key episode from the Pushkin short story. The sources include poems by D.I. Fonvizin’s, the diary of S.A. Poroshin (tutor of the heir apparent TsesarevichPavelPetrovich), F.F. Vigel’s memoirs, etc.
