Abstract
The article is concerned with the analysis of the most communicatively relevant semantic fields of Russian everyday speech, as well as some peculiarities of synonymy and antonymy of colloquial word meanings are considered. Comparison with English everyday vocabulary illuminates cultural differences between speakers of Russian and English respectively.
