Abstract
The article delineates the poetics and specific features of the biographical genre in Vladimir Nabokov's "Nikolai Gogol". The work is analysed in the context of literature of the 1930s - 1940s when the genre was extremely popular. The paper is focussed on its poetics, composition, imagery, language as well as on the intertextual connections between this biography and texts by Lewis Carroll, Laurence Sterne, Franзois Rabelais, Innokenty Annensky and some other writers.
