Abstract
For the fi rst time the text of Ivan Bunin's short story Rusya is analysed with the use of its manuscript versions as well as that of references to Slavic mythology, Russian poetry (ballads by A.K. Tolstoy), and ancient poetry. The establishment of the source of the Latin citation at the end of the story (the 8th carmen of Catullus) allows to deepen its interpretation and to specify its compositional model.
