- Abstract
- Thematic and stylistic varieties of burlesque are examined in the light of the ancient theory of three styles and the category of appropriateness ( aptum), spheres of its operation are demonstrated, a paradigm of means of its construction is built up. The analysis of connections of burlesque with a number of closely related phenomena (such as the grotesque, parody, travesty et al.) has enabled a more sharp differentiation of these concepts and specification of the corresponding definitions.
