Abstract
The essay explores the bucolic genre, one of the popular genres of the Roman literature, and its existence and development in the Carolingian Renaissance. A set of topoi was one of the characteristic features of the eclogue. In the period of 780-900 the topos of "the praise of the hero" came to the foreground. The type of the main agent underwent a change in the course of the period in question: the emperor (780s-820s) - a bishop or an abbot (830-840s) - a saint (the end of the 9th c.).
