- Abstract
- The article describes different forms of V. Bryusov's response to the work and destiny of the French late Romantic Villiers de l'Isle-Adam's. A recognized propagator of the French culture in Russia, V. Bryusov made numerous attempts to introduce this writer to the Russian readership. As the author of the article clarifies, the Russian symbolist's continuous attention to Villiers's figure can be explained not only by his fondness for Villiers's works, but also by Villiers's odd literary reputation ("the most cursed of the cursed"). Some interesting concurrences between Bryusov's tories and Villiers de l'Isle-Adam's novelettes are noted, too.
