Abstract
This is the last article in our series of studies devoted to the most ancient monument of the Church Slavonic literature - the Canon to Cyril the Philosopher. In the first part of the article, there is offered a parallel reconstruction of the Slavonic rendition of the ninth ode of the Canon and the correspondent segment of the lost Greek original - the texts, which contain important evidence instrumental in fixing the date of the work, since they reveal that the Canon was created soon after the death of the Apostle to the Slavs. Further on, we bring forward - in its entirety - a reconstruction of the original text of the hypothetical Greek original and of the Slavonic translation of the Canon to St. Cyril, - the reconstruction, which prompts a conclusion that the Canon, initially consisting of nine odes, used to contain an acrostic Κλέο<ς Κυρί>λλῳ Βασίλειος τῷ Φιλοσόφῳ μέλπω - verbatim: 'glory to Cyril Basileios to Philosopher I sing'. The final part of the article summarizes our views on the original text of the Canon, on the merits and linguistic singularities of its Slavonic translation, on questions respecting the date and authorship of the source text and its translation.
