Abstract

Yemen war has become a unique example of U.S. involvement in the Middle East conflict. The United States gave up the initiative to its regional ally and didn`t pretend to be a key actor on the battlefield. Nevertheless, such an approach hasn`t led to the successful conclusion of the armed conflict. The United States has incurred material and reputational losses. Washington inconsistent approach made it difficult to resolve a conflict. The United States' claim to be a mediator between hostile parties remains questionable. Russia is pretending to play this role too. Yet, Moscow doesn`t have a leverage in its relations with key external parties of Yemen War – Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Its inconsistent approach to Islamism movements doesn`t promote Russia as a neutral mediator.
