Abstract

The problems of emergence and development of the Institute of judicial assessors and its various sub-institutions, their status and procedural characteristics, the role and importance in the implementation of justice are considered. The important function of civil society, carried out by judicial assessors, on implementation of public control of judicial activity of professional judges in processes with their participation is designated. The expediency of restoration of the subinstitute of people's assessors by means of its adaptation to today's social and economic realities is proved. Proposals are made to improve the institution of judicial assessors as an important link in the mechanism of domestic justice; it is proposed to develop and adopt a Federal law on judicial assessors.
