Abstract
The main focus of this work is metalinguistic reflection of speakers (prov. Lecce, region Apulia, Southern Italy). Griko is not used anymore as a common language for everyday communication, and only some representatives of the older generation (born circa 1930-1940) have a good command of it. Nevertheless, since the 1970’s-1980’s, the region has evidenced numerous attempts at language revitalization. Among other things, the language activists have encouraged local population to create literary texts in Griko. My interest is in how literary works further the process of the minority language preservation and revitalization. I also study the main strategies the authors use to make their texts more comprehensible for those who lack fluency in Griko.
