Abstract
There are found among the later works of D.H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf a few texts with the myth or myth-like input. These are Lawrence's play “David” (1926) and his book “Apocalypse” (1931), as well as Woolf's essay “A Room of One's Own” (1929) and her novel “The Waves” (1931). It is for the first time that these texts are brought together as a corpus with certain similar and dissimilar aspects. The article addresses the issue of the writers' reconsidering the myths and legends of diverse origin, that lie at the core of the above named works. The objective is to reveal the pattern of the writers' approaches to the re-interpretation of myth as defined by modernity, its semiosis and idiom.
