Abstract
Proceeding from the newly found archive materials (documents and letters), the article looks at the story of turbulent professional and personal friendship of Maxim Gorky (the “Petrel” of the Revolution) with Nikolai Bukharin (one of the Party ideologists and leaders of the Soviet state). The light is shed on the vicissitudes of life under Stalin's regime, which reduced the great men of history to the victims of the times.
