Abstract
The fi rst Russian translation of The Sun - the monograph written by American astronomer Charles Augustus Young (1834-1908) - was published in 1914; the next print run, in 1923, was 3000 copies: the book appeared as part of the series "Nature and Culture" (in Russian, "Priroda i Kultura"). It's note worthy that in his novel Chevengur Andrei P. Platonov pictures building of a 'communist' society, which relies exclusively on solar technologies. This article offers a hypothesis that Ch.A. Young's book might have served as a source for Platonov's novel - particularly for its allusive level.
