- Abstract
- The article deals with the treatise "Lo specchio della vera penitenza" ("Mirror of the True Repentance") by the 14th-century Dominican preacher Jacopo Passavanti from the standpoint of its genre. The treatise is based on a cycle of his sermons and combines elements of such genres as sermon, treatise or theological work, exemplum, and novella. The analysis allows to conclude that the medieval sermon as a genre manifests instability and, due to its connections with other genres, has a tendency to merge with them.
