- Abstract
- The destruction of the second volume of “The Dead Souls” by Gogol is a subject of study of long standing. The article presents various versions of this event and analyzes the unique character of Gogol’s project, the course that the work on the poem took and the author’s mental and emotional state during the last months of his life – all that determined the fate of the second volume.
