Abstract
Metaphors in the novels “Chevengur” and “Schastlivaja Moskva” by Andrey Platonov are under consideration in the paper. The cognitive and descriptive theories of metaphor are used in its analysis. Contexts in which the metaphors occur are systematized in the data base which allows to undertake a statistical analysis of the material. As the analysis shows there are three groups (clusters, or constellations) of metaphors in the novels: 1. PERSONIFICATION metaphor (living creatures, PLANTS, ORGANISMS); 2. INANIMATE ENTITIES; 3. SPACE metaphor. The system of metaphors in the novels is, on the one hand, aimed at achieving harmony in the perception of Nature and the human being who is regarded as its integral part, and at comprehending Nature as the embodiment of the living and rational entities, on the other.
