Abstract

The article deals with the paradoxes of the reception and interpretation of the Brecht drama on the Soviet stage in the 1930–1960’s. The co-existence of various theatrical traditions (Vakhtangov, Stanislavsky, Brecht) in the performance of “The Good Person of Szechwan” by Y. Lyubimov is looked into. There are analyzed both the original methods and techniques of Brecht’s epic theatre, woven into the texture of the play, and changes and innovations brought into the text of Brecht’s drama by Lyubimov.
