Abstract
It is demonstrated that language handicap is caused by both objective and subjective factors. The former can be interpreted in terms of linguistic typology and linguistic universals; the latter is connected with psychological, physiological, and cogitative qualities of an individual. Impediments of objective nature affect the functioning of whole series of syntagmatic and paradigmatic mechanisms responsible for speech production, as well as an individual’s ability to communicate – which might be observed in spontaneous adult and child speech, and also in aphasic or shizophasic speech.
