Abstract

The paper considers the problem of anthropology and ontology of the place which is essential to the second volume of Gogol’s “The Dead Souls”. The analysis of this concept is extremely important for our understanding of the artist’s intention in the unfinished work. A special attention is paid to principles of symbolization of the picture and to the symbolic meaning of the place.
