Abstract
The article is focused on a fictional episode in Marina Tsvetaeva’s “A Living Word About a Living Man” in which Maximilian Voloshin suggests that young Tsvetaeva publishes her “poems about Russia” under the name Petukhov to deceive literary institutions. An attempted reconstruction of the discussion in the Symbolist circles that was centered on “Russian style” is interpreted in the article as a conflict between the “imperialistic” and “national” discourses. As the author underlines, Tsvetaeva’s opposition to the “poetic imperialism” predetermined unconventional character of her poetics from the point of view of powerful literary institutions in the years 1910-1930.
