Abstract
It is demonstrated that particles mol and deskať should not be identified as markers of or epistemic modality - they mark citation. A marker of epistemic modality is semantically similar to a parenthetical verb of speech or opinion, when the speaker shares the responsibility for the truth of the proposition in question with some other person. While mol and deskať transfer responsibility onto the cited person.
