- The article is devoted to the lexicographical problem of presentation of ambiguous lexical items (homonyms and polysemantic words) in defining dictionaries; the article elaborates on the idea of the gradual-scale “polysemy - homonymy” (on the example of different sets of meanings, within which the semantic shifts occur for extra-linguistic reasons); the ways to reflect such spectrums of meaning in defining dictionaries are also offered
